Elsternwick Methodist Church
Minister: Sister Denise Creed
‘Go in peace, go in joy, go in love.’
We sing this in our chapel after every service and hope that people who share our services feel this and take it away with them to begin their week surrounded by God’s love.
We are small in number but our activities continue to thrive. In June we held a vintage afternoon tea with a treasure hunt and quiz. We were blessed with a beautiful day (unlike the last one we held when it poured with rain) and many people enjoyed exploring Elstronwick on the treasure hunt while others puzzled over the quiz in the chapel. Pretty china, cloths and bunting added to the atmosphere, not forgetting a plentiful supply of dainty sandwiches and delicious cakes.
Messy church in the summer followed the theme of the calling to be ‘fishers of people.’ Some wonderful fishy scenes and mobiles were created and ‘fish’ biscuits and jelly seas were very popular. Our next messy church is on the 1 November 2018, so appropriately we are having a saintly theme!
Our Harvest festival, shared with St Lawrence Anglican Church, was led by Rev Randall Barlow and it was lovely to share this special time with him. Afterwards our gifts and produce went to ‘Open Doors’ on Princes Avenue which offer much needed help to local Asylum seekers.
